SOURCE: DIRECTV Inc., Monday January 29, 2007

‘Satellite Television Leader Also Debuts National Advertising Campaign Featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr. as the Debut of the Service Draws Near

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 29, 2007–In 2007, DIRECTV will take the NASCAR television experience to another level as it debuts the highly anticipated and exclusive

NASCAR HOTPASS(TM) only on DIRECTV during the Daytona 500 on February 18 at Daytona International Speedway. Today, the nation’s leading satellite television service provider announced the first five drivers for the debut of this new interactive television service that will enable fans to ride shotgun with their favorite drivers by literally taking them into the cars and pits of the top drivers and teams in NASCAR.
NASCAR HOTPASS(TM) only on DIRECTV, will feature five channels (DIRECTV channels 794-799) completely devoted to specific drivers and their racing teams each week. The service will debut at the Daytona 500 with the following lineup of top NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers:

Dale Earnhardt Jr. - Dale Earnhardt Incorporated

Kevin Harvick - Richard Childress Racing

Jimmie Johnson - Hendrick Motorsports

Tony Stewart - Joe Gibbs Racing

Michael Waltrip - Waltrip-Jasper Racing

“We’re proud that the first five drivers who have decided to participate in this incredible new service are among NASCAR’s most elite competitors,” said David Hill, president of entertainment for DIRECTV. “The drivers are energized and excited about this new way to translate the incredible NASCAR experience, but it is the fans who are in for a truly amazing experience.”

To drive national awareness for this exciting and exclusive new package, DIRECTV has completed its first national advertising campaign for the service, featuring the sport’s most popular personality, Dale Earnhardt Jr. The spot is set to debut just before the Daytona 500 and is a continuation of DIRECTV’s “Fourth Wall” campaign where top actors and athletes recreate a scene from a famous movie or a noteworthy moment of sports competition.

The resulting effect in this case will be Earnhardt Jr. directly addressing the viewing audience while in the middle of a Victory Lane celebration following an actual NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race victory. This same technology was employed in previous DIRECTV spots using footage from popular films such as “Star Trek-The Undiscovered Country,” “Dukes of Hazard,” “Back to the Future” and recently, NFL game footage featuring Colts quarterback and DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET spokesman Peyton Manning.

With NASCAR HOTPASS(TM) only on DIRECTV, each of the five dedicated driver channels will offer multiple camera angles, real-time car telemetry, in-car audio communication and a dedicated announcer team. The new service, combined with race day telecasts and nascar.com coverage, will give fans the most comprehensive and powerful NASCAR experience possible.

DIRECTV customers can now purchase NASCAR HOTPASS only on DIRECTV(TM). The full-season price of the package is $99, but customers can take advantage of an Early Bird offer by purchasing the package by Jan. 31, 2007 for $79. The exclusive service is also available on a pay-per-week basis for $29.99. More information is available on www.directv.com/hotpass.

DIRECTV is an official sponsor of NASCAR and an official sponsor of Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and the # 07 car.

DIRECTV Customer Testimonials

Below are a few satisfied DIRECTV customers that ordered their service through DirectStarTV but don’t take their word for it, see how great DIRECTV is for yourself. Order Now.

“I just made the switch to DIRECTV a few weeks ago and love it! Every channel is consistently clear and the audio is better than Time Warner’s Digital Cable. Plus, I’m saving $20 (and change) a month with the exact programming (TOTAL CHOICE® plus HBO). The new remotes are much better than the older ones and the actual receiver is half the size of my DVD player. And for the first three months, HBO and Cinemax are FREE! In fact, just last night I watched “Sultry Confessions” on Cinemax and really enjoyed the plot and acting. Great stuff.
DIRECTV via DirectStar is awesome!”

Douglas L. Cobb

“Your customer service representatives are top-notch. Many thanks especially to Lisa and Elly at DirectStarTV for their efforts. They were extremely helpful and kept me informed of what they were doing and what to expect.”

“DIRECTV was successfully installed in my home today. Our installer, Rob Taylor, was great! He was funny yet extremely helpful! It was an enjoyable experience. Thank you again DirectStarTV!”

Stacee Flanagan
Atlanta, GA

“I ordered the Direct TV TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER package today through DirectStarTV, I could not be more satisfied with the simplicity of the whole process. I set up an appointment for an installer to come set up my receiver and satellite… not only was he was on time, he also showed me how to use the system and then I sat back and watched. The picture is clearer than my older cable service and its so easy to use and understand. My favorite attribute is the fact that I can set limits and locks for my children’s viewing time and I can feel at ease with what they are watching television while I am in another room. Thank you DIRECTV (DirectStarTV).”

DIRECTV & CBS Extend HD March Madness 01/25/07

SOURCE: TVPredictions.com, January 23, 2007

‘Washington, D.C. (January 23, 2007) — DIRECTV has signed a multi-year agreement with CBS to continue offering a pay package of NCAA college basketball tournament games every March.

The ‘NCAA Mega March Madness’ package will include up to 37 out of market games in the first three rounds of the tournament, including an unspecified number of high-def broadcasts.

DIRECTV has carried the pay package for the last few years. The new agreement also calls for the satcaster to offer the CBS-owned CSTV channel to an expanded audience. CSTV airs college-theme shows and events.

“We’re not only generating new revenues through the NCAA satellite package, but by offering CSTV to more than 8 million DIRECTV customers, we’ve significantly expanded its reach,” CBS CEO Leslie Moonves said in a statement.

For DIRECTV, the CBS extension gives the satcaster another exclusive sports package for years to come. DIRECTV now has the exclusive rights to the NFL Sunday Ticket and reportedly is close to landing an exclusive deal for Major League Baseball’s ‘Extra Innings’ package of out of market games.

“From its inception, exclusive sports programming has set DIRECTV apart as the leading multi-channel provider of the world’s most important and exciting sporting events,” said DIRECTV CEO Chase Carey.’

DIRECTV to Get ‘MLB Extra’ Exclusive; HDTV Expected

SOURCE: TVPredictions.com, January 22, 2007

‘Washington, D.C. (January 20, 2007) — DIRECTV is close to landing an exclusive deal to carry Major League Baseball’s ‘Extra Innings’ package.

That’s according to an article in today’s New York Times.

The deal is expected to begin this season and will likely allow DIRECTV to air a large number of games in High-Definition TV. The satcaster is planning to expand its high-def capacity in the second half of this year and has been searching for programming partners to fill the space.

DIRECTV has offered regional MLB high-def broadcasts in the past as part of its Extra Innings package. However, the greater HD capacity should allow the satcaster to deliver those games nationally.

MLB Extra Innings permits viewers to watch approximately 50-60 ‘out-of-market’ baseball games for a set fee. The pay package has been available on cable, EchoStar and DIRECTV until now.

If DIRECTV lands the exclusive rights as expected, it would give the satcaster two exclusive sports packages. DIRECTV has had the exclusive rights to the NFL Sunday Ticket for more than 10 years.

As part of the deal, the Times reports, DIRECTV will also carry MLB’s new baseball channel exclusively in 2009.

The newspaper writes that DIRECTV will pay MLB $700 million for seven years for the exclusive rights to Extra Innings and the new baseball channel.’

Choose TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER programming and get over 255 all-digital channels including 31 premium movie channels from HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and Starz, 25 regional and specialty sports networks, and 72 commercial-free XM Satellite radio channels. The CES 2007 HDTV Winners – DIRECTV

The 2007 Consumer Electronics Show is officially over so it's time once again for Swanni's CES Winners & Losers!

Among the winners were Sharp, Apple, Warners Brothers and of course, DIRECTV.

DIRECTV

The satcaster generated big headlines with its announcement that it will offer 100 national HDTV channels by year's end. Mind you, DIRECTV has yet to even launch the two satellites that will store the extra channels, but let's not let the details get in the way of a good headline.

Among the losers in the CES poll are TiVo and EchoStar (Dish Network).

EchoStar

EchoStar's Dish Network has more than HDTV channels than any other provider. But DIRECTV's "100 HDTV Channels In 2007" proclamation left EchoStar gasping for air.
EchoStar's announcement that it will offer free HD DVRs was all but ignored.

Clearly DIRECTV is ahead of the HDTV race when it comes to predictions for 2007.

What is the DISH Network Court Ruling?

An injunction has been issued that will affect as many as 800,000 DISH Network subscribers nationwide. The court found that EchoStar's DISH Network illegally provides distant network signals to ineligible homes and will be forced to shut down the high-definition and standard-definition "distant" signals. DISH Network may be required to halt service to all subscribers who receive the network transmissions, even if the subscriptions are legal. As soon as December 01, 2006 subscribers could lose ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox programming with DISH Network.

"This is a clear setback for EchoStar. EchoStar's best hope now is that the appeals court will stay this Dec. 1 cutoff date and hear the appeal," said Paul Gallant, a media analyst with Stanford Washington Research Group.

This injunction will prevent EchoStar (DISH Network) from offering what are called "significantly viewed" stations. These are popular TV stations seen by viewers; they include ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox Networks in which customers receive local broadcasts including your local news and major programming.

Simply put – this means that come December 2, DISH Network’s distant-network subscribers could see their traditional television networks including local sports and other network programming channels turn to a static-black screen

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 2007--Going where no other television service provider has gone before, DIRECTV, the nation's leading digital satellite television service, is introducing the world's first fully-integrated, portable satellite and TV system - DIRECTV(R) Sat-Go (Satellite-To-Go). This new product, created by DIRECTV and TV producer/writer, Rick Rosner, was unveiled today at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Scheduled to launch in spring 2007, DIRECTV Sat-Go will come in an easy-to-carry, briefcase-like design that includes a 17-inch LCD monitor with integrated DIRECTV Receiver, flat antenna and replaceable/rechargeable laptop-style battery. Once the DIRECTV Sat-Go unit is opened, its quick and simple setup makes it easy for customers to find line-of-sight with DIRECTV satellites and receive DIRECTV(R) programming within minutes (provided the user is within range of the DIRECTV signal).

DIRECTV(R) Sat-Go is specifically designed to be compact and highly portable for a variety of outdoor and indoor settings, including camping and hiking trips, RVing, tailgating, college dormitories, hospital rooms, hotels/motels, emergency response, and in-home as a second TV set.

"DIRECTV Sat-Go will revolutionize the way people stay connected to news and information no matter where they are in the United States," said Eric Shanks, executive vice president,
DIRECTV Entertainment. "Not only is this product a die-hard sports fan's dream and an absolute essential for the ultimate tailgate party, but it will also provide an important value for emergency services who need to stay connected to up-to-the-minute news and information while they are stationed remotely."

DIRECTV(R) Sat-Go was conceived by television producer and first DIRECTV West Coast customer, Rick Rosner. Rosner, who was trying to find an alternative to bringing his DIRECTV Dish and Receiver with him while traveling to different location shoots across the country, teamed up with DIRECTV engineer, David Kuether, to develop the DIRECTV Sat-Go prototype.

"Lugging that equipment with me and trying to set it up in my hotel room was exhausting and I knew there had to be a better way to bring my DIRECTV service with me everywhere I went," said Rosner, producer, Rosner Television. "DIRECTV Sat-Go is the answer that I, others in the industry, and many travelers have been searching for. It delivers everything my DIRECTV System at home gives me - the ultimate in TV viewing - in a portable and affordable travel system. Now I can take DIRECTV with me wherever I go and watch television in minutes."

When not being used as a portable/travel unit, DIRECTV Sat-Go can also be utilized as a stand-alone, in-home DIRECTV Receiver and television. The LCD TV screen has a built-in DIRECTV Receiver, which can be separated from the DIRECTV Sat-Go antenna casing and connected to a customer's existing DIRECTV Satellite Dish.

Current DIRECTV customers can mirror the authorized DIRECTV(R) programming that they receive at home to their DIRECTV Sat-Go receivers for an additional $4.99 per month. DIRECTV Sat-Go customers will have access to DIRECTV's programming lineup, including the premium sports subscription packages, such as NFL SUNDAY TICKET(TM) and MEGA MARCH MADNESS(R). Court TV Dropped from DISH Network Lineup

SOURCE: SkyReport.com, Tuesday January 2, 2007

‘The year-end programming carriage spats that have surfaced between programmers and platform providers apparently caught up with a satellite TV service.

On New Year's Day, CourtTV began carrying a message on its Web site saying its service is no longer available on DISH Network, EchoStar's DBS offering. The site asks dedicated fans to stand up "to this injustice" and gives viewers a toll-free number they can call about the loss of service.

In response, EchoStar said in a statement it regrets the disruption of service. However, prior to the loss of CourtTV, the channel's parent Turner Networks refused to offer an extension in the company's America's Top 120 Package for continued negotiations, the satellite TV company said.

"We are working hard to negotiate a fair contract with Turner Networks and CourtTV," said Eric Sahl, senior vice president of programming for EchoStar's DISH Network. "But we must also protect our customers from unreasonable demands. It is not fair to ask our customers to pay a DBS premium for a channel owned by the second largest cable operator, Time Warner. We take pride in offering consumers the best value for pay TV service in the industry, and we remain committed to keeping our cost structure low to the benefit of our customers."

EchoStar said it "diligently tried" to reach an agreement with Turner Networks for continued carriage of CourtTV. "Unfortunately, Turner Networks refused to deliver an offer for carriage in America's Top 120 package that fairly reflects CourtTV's overall ratings performance and value," the company said.’

DIRECTV – 2007’s HDTV Leader

SOURCE: SkyReport.com, Tuesday January 02, 2007

‘It's no surprise that high-def TV had a killer year in 2006 as sales skyrocketed both online and at retailers nationwide. With the popularity of the technology reaching new levels, some researchers have projected more than 3.2 million flat-panel HDTVs to be sold to U.S. consumers during the past several weeks.

So with all those new TV sets in American homes, what can viewers expect from HDTV in 2007?

According to one of our favorite new HDTV experts, expect DIRECTV to firmly establish itself as the HDTV king as the company unveils its much-anticipated high-def expansion. HDTV writer Phil Swann (a.k.a. the Swanni, he tells us) said in 2007 DIRECTV will increase its national high-def lineup thanks to two new satellites dedicated largely to HD. Swann(i) said once the birds go up, DIRECTV will have more capacity than any other pay-TV provider.

Swann also said that once DIRECTV expands its capacity, the market will see a flurry of new HDTV channels launching in late spring or early summer. "Until now, a new HDTV channel has had to struggle to get a cable or satellite operator to add it," he said. "But DIRECTV's two new satellites will change that in a heartbeat; they will have room for all." Likely candidates for HD launches, Swann said, could include CNN, E!, TBS, FX and The Sci-Fi Channel.

Other things the Swanni foresees in 2007 for HD: Cable operators will continue to drop analog channels to make room for HDTV, HDTV prices will continue to drop, Apple will introduce an HDTV service and multicasting will continue to struggle.’
